The End of Civilization – The How? Part 3.

Before we begin this part regarding the third stage of the apocalypse and the decisive events that occur here. You must first understand that the end of civilization has already occurred. It has been repeated time and again in the last post and it will be explained here for the last time in case your too blonde to get it. (Don’t worry if your Blonde, Blondes have more fun!)

The End of Civilization occurs when revered pieces of paper with funky text such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Emancipation Proclamation, and Walmart Discount coupons is worth less than a clean tissue paper. Regardless of the multitude of events leading up to that unfortunate day. Zombies of all forms and sizes will walk the earth in that foreseeable future.

Before you start grabbing and memorizing the Brooks ultimate zombie survival guide as if its the new bible. The Zombies in this entire set of blog will not mean the Brooks, Romero or any other Resident Evil zombie. The Zombies in this blog will mean humans whose mental state have regressed to a point where Tarzan would appear like an English Lord. Prisoners in long isolation, sailors during the galleon age, and entire tribes deep in the forests of Africa and south America have developed a culture that modern man consider barbaric. It is however a modern and historical truth that societies of old are culturally ruthless to themselves and others which is the general theme of thousands of years of human history till 1945. (and a few isolated later cases such as Nigeria, Kurdistan and, Sarajevo)

We will not revolve this post around a history lesson, You can just Google that. I am only stipulating that historically mankind ALL OVER THE WORLD, FOR ALL TIME, in the absence of strong central government will develop multitude of separated sub culture of tribes, and that any of these given tribes will commit unspeakable acts of horrific violence against its own members and other tribes in the name of God/s, land, progress, prosperity, glory, vengeance, and other mambo jumbo.

At this stage of the apocalypse it is important that the survivor community who may evolve into its own unique tribe determine if a significant majority of the world was thrown back to the dark ages. A good way to determine this is something called the colored TV test. A modern colored LCD TV will have thousands of electronic parts half of which require precision engineering and 300 PHDs from different fields to build. If the world collectively can still make one new (not fix a broken one) LCD Colored TV, starting from mining industrial diamonds in South America, Chemical LCD in the USA, Transistor Assembly in Japan, Microchip and IC in Taiwan, Copper and silver mining, etc etc…. till final assembly in China then it is a good bet that civilization will NOT end and storm will blow over.
This is the reason why the terminator war will be won by the humans in a generations time. The Machines will have serious logistical problems regarding precision engineering. It may appear it would take mere minutes for a huge robotic dentist drill to create a T-800 but it would take thousands of humans and equipment to excavate the lubricant of that drill, refine it, transport it, can it, and finally deliver it to that particular giant dentist drill. That doesn’t include the work involved finding the actual place to drill a hole in the ground for that small can of lubricant.
If your situation passes the colored LCD TV test then be prepared to rebuild your life and live relatively happily ever after or until the next quasi disaster. However if the situation fails the colored LCD test then be prepared to relive the horrors of the dark ages when parents use historical figures such as Hannibal and the Huns as boogie men to keep their children from going too far out the pasture.
What is ironic however though Hannibal and the Huns and a thousand other individuals and nations use real life people to scare their children, and while we so called modern types have evolved to Dracula from the historical figure Prince Vlad the Impaler (who saved Christianity btw). Our Zombie boogie men will be your old preschool teacher with a shotgun wanting to take your last carton of Marlboro’s.

If the situation passes the colored TV test, then the situation past the storm will improve, Humanitarian relief efforts will arrive, the military will regain control, and law enforcement will again mean something. However if it does not. Expect the situation for the next few generations to degenerate rapidly. In this case a good knowledge of history will be your guide. All tribal nations (no the USA is not a tribal nation, however the Native North American People were before the white man came.) evolved from a bunch of barbarian tribes till a strong leader united all tribes usually through a long civil war. Chinese and Japanese history is a good template for this. Warlords will evolve with different outlook on the future and definitely have different moral standards from each other.
These tribes will interact peacefully through trade and intermarriage or through wars of attrition to blatant genocide. It is also ironic to point out how historically every nation who consider themselves culturally superior and civilized ran around the first 6000 years of human history destroying, occupying, enslaving, etc every other inferior (so they say) culture they meet.
I will not preach a particular culture that is superior as Learned Greeks, Imperialist Anglos, Religious Moors, Civilized Romans, Warlike Norsemen, Nomadic Huns, etc etc have all engaged in a war of attrition against other nations at one point in time or another. No system of government or culture is not without flaws however it can be noted that some are more successful than others. Military prowess did not help the Alans, Technological advancement did not help the Chinese, Isolation and Gold did not help the Mayans, God the Hebrews, nor did ideology helped the Greeks.
We will discuss these further in the next post. In this post we will concentrate more on how to stay alive in the first few generations after the storm so that your own little tribe is actually ALIVE to build a new society.

During the first year after the storm significant amounts of supplies ranging from food to armaments will be available for the taking. The world has industrial capacity today to provide for 7 billion people with stuff such as contraceptives and after such a devastating global catastrophe there should be enough supplies to last on foraging alone.
The earliest human cultures have survived as hunters / gatherers. They are nomadic and follow a strict form of primitive communism. To survive the first year we must emulate this culture for survival. To those living in a relatively rural environment you can read Anthropological studies of early man living during this stage. Since no historical document or study have been made on this situation on (what used to be) a heavily urbanized environment we will concentrate on that.
That part will be subdivided into many different posts, which you can read parallel to this post and others. The first part is about the selection of a social structure. Here the chain of command discussed in the previous post would be discussed more exhaustively, starting from die fuhrer to the minions. If a single individual lives alone in the residence fortress, Then this segment might not be necessary. However that is not recommend unless Humans figure out how to reproduce asexually surviving alone with no interaction has no sense in the bigger scheme of things. Besides asexual reproduction sounds boring.
The second part is back to basics to survive let us discuss the human so called basic needs. Food, Shelter and Clothing. This will be discussed in 3 different posts titled daily nutrition, the fort, and dress for success. It is important to consider that all 3 is a requirement every day. Humans may survive for a few days without food/water/shelter but a few weeks is pushing it. If a particular individual has zero chance of surviving the next few weeks, then there’s no point continuing with this and you can go back searching for online streaming porn. These requirements exist as a need today in these peaceful decadent times, they will not only be a need during this stage of the apocalypse but they will be a desperate need. As such, it will be the primary source of many disputes and violent deaths.
The next part is what we call secondary needs, they exist today but they are easier to acquire, procure, emulate, fake, and are more or less taken for granted. However in a doomsday scenario a humans need for personal and territorial security not only becomes a primary concern. It is a daily primary concern. This will be discussed further in the post Bogey Contact. Other secondary needs such as social interaction, mental and physical wellness is also important. In the Brooks fictional account of a particular apocalypse he has described a fictional ailment called Asymptomatic Demise Syndrome. ASD as it is called in the book showed how a significant number of survivors at this stage of apocalypse simply give up on life and die. Lets face it, no matter how hard core the situation is, how Rambo we may think we are, humans are frilly creatures that needs to be hugged.
The third and final part is the John Connor “What is the point?”. question. Ironically after thousands of years of human history, thousands of geniuses and crazy philosophers have asked a pretty basic yet mind boggling question. “What is the meaning of life?” (No it is not 42!)To the survivors at the brink of extinction that answer will be reduced to a simple basic answer.

The dark ages have returned and to those who are lucky or semantically unlucky enough to live through the trying times of the 3rd stage of the apocalypse. The forth and final stage has been set and the world is open again for the rebirth of humanity.
